Trace(This) was founded on a simple philosophical inquest, ‘How does a company succeed?’ or more accurately in our case, ‘How does a company score tons of cash with very little effort?’
After looking deep within our hearts, we found that the answer was simple: Take from the Japanese.
Aku no Chinko was licensed by Trace(This) from the Chikubi Aba-Zure Corporation in 2010. This anime title from 1994 was promised to have the stylization of Takashi Murakami mixed with the depth of Hayao Miyazaki, but we’re pretty sure they fucked us. We put in the cash, and a few weeks later we got a few CDR’s in a plain white envelope. It took us 4 hours and 6 different DVD players til we finally got to watch the cartoons, and it seems like they just downloaded some weird bootleg hentai and burned it onto a disk using a Dell with a generation 1 CD burner. The vendor of said japanismut refused to answer our calls, so now we’re stuck with this stack of crappy anime porn. There is a lesson somewhere underneath the utter shame of the situation, but we’ll be damned if we figure out what it is.
In order to recoup some of our lost investment capital, we are currently in the process of re-editing and translating some of the discs. Season 1 of Aku no Chinko is scheduled to air online in Q1 of 2013 (as long as the world hasn’t already ended).
